Anything easy is not worth doing
Way back in February, I wrote about the difference between pushing and pulling information. If you’re looking to push information to your students, I wish you the best of luck.
I’ll admit, pushing is enticing; it’s easy. It’s traditional, which means no one will get on your back over it. It’s popular, which means there are plenty of resources that will guide you step by step.
The problem is that it’s easy. Anything easy is not worth doing because it’s probably already being done to death. If you’re going to push content, beware – you will have lots of competition. You will have to compete with television; you will have to compete with radio; you will have to compete with the dozens of printed advertisements that adorn the 2-train.
Don’t underestimate your competition: they are professionals.
Dare to be creative. Dare to encourage your students be creative. Create scenarios where students want the content. Create scenarios where they want to seek it out. It will not be easy – but you know what they say about easy.
