Unlikely Bedfellows
The world of education has been trying its best to buddy up with sociology and other social sciences lately in an attempt to process data in a meaningful way. That being said–if biology and physics are “hard sciences” and sociology and psychology are “soft sciences,” then education is… I digress.
Schools would do well to team up with marketing and design. Data gives you fabulous information on what you should be teaching to your students and sparks the flame for differentiation but it doesn’t help us to package our instruction in ways that permeate the static and resonate with students.
Corporations use the latest and “greatest” marketing and design to target kids and garner mindshare. Why should we sit back like lame ducks? I think there is a lot to be learned from the tactics used by advertisers to gain kids’ attention.
I wonder what a viral marketing campaign would look like in a middle school classroom.
